Today is the Day of Memory for victims of Honour Based Abuse. Shafilea Ahmed aged 17 was killed by her parents in 2003 after suffering years of abuse for becoming ‘too westernised’. Honour Based Abuse is often thought of as a ‘cultural’, ‘traditional’ or ‘religious’ problem. This is not true – it is a type of domestic abuse and is illegal in the UK.
